Chapter Eight

Troy combed his fingers through his damp hair as the gusts of wind blew harder. This damn storm wasn’t letting up any time soon. And looking around, it didn’t seem as if anyone had any power on in their homes for miles. Like the turbulent winds, Troy’s emotions were all over the place.

What should he do? His erection was straining inside his pants. Good thing for that distraction or who knew what would have happened as he tasted Pamela’s sweet lips. He had Cilla to think about, too. The girl (along with her mother) who led him to his grandfather when he had been a poor boy living out of his father’s van after his mother died. They’d just lost their home at the time, too. They were down and out and meeting Cilla with her mom at the mall was heaven sent. She’d led him to his grandfather and a life of luxury and privilege after that. He and his brothers would never in a million years forget where they came from and those who were there for them in their past. Cilla led him to his fortune, so he couldn’t possibly prevent her from keeping her own in a bizarre twist of fate. He could just see Cilla’s face if she even knew he and Pamela were alone in the cottage.

He couldn’t let down a good family friend who pretty much turned his life around—thanks to her mother. But then again, he didn’t want to lose what could be the greatest love of his life in Pamela. She was the real deal. His gut felt it with those lips of hers. There was something so sincere, so innocent, and so connecting with being with Pamela. Imagine that! They hadn’t even slept together, yet he’d felt so much in love with her, a part of her.

The truth was, his heart was with Pamela—all the way. He could do nothing less than think about her day and night, fantasize about her.

Damn, if Troy were honest with himself, he just couldn’t see himself living without Pamela. She had to be in his future. He needed her like he needed air to breathe. But what would he do about Cilla? Their arrangement was to be married for at least a year. That meant appearing as a happily-married couple. He’d have to stay away from Pam, though, for fear of someone seeing them together.

It was no use to see other people if they were to convince the estate that Cilla was in a real marriage. After all, from what she’d told him, the executors of the estate didn’t think much of her and would like nothing more than to withhold her inheritance if they so much as suspected she was not truly married as per the weird conditions of her parents’ will.

The last thing Troy would want to do was have Cilla’s cover blown. If anything had happened tonight between him and Pamela, it would only be the one night. There could be no repeats.
